In 2002, Hofstra University established an unprecedented fellowship program for students engaged in advocacy on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. This program is designed to demonstrate Hofstra’s commitment to equality and support for LGBT individuals.

The mission of the Institute for the Study of Gender, Law, and Public Policy at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law is to facilitate teaching, research, and scholarship concerning gender as it relates to law and public policy. The Institute will also facilitate interdisciplinary exchange within Hofstra University.

The programming in the area of the Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion aims to work closely with students, faculty, administration and staff to develop programs and initiatives that enables the campus community members to explore identity, to enhance intercultural competence, and to develop skills to build an inclusive campus climate. Coordinating cultural-themed heritage months for the University, the staff is responsible for planning and implementing cultural awareness and diversity education programming for the community at Hofstra.

Our mission is to provide a unified voice for the LGBTQI community and inspire collective action. By promoting visibility and awareness of LGBTQI issues, OutLaw provides a safe space to address the legal, social and political issues impacting LGBTQI and other marginalized peoples. Through collaborative initiatives, we seek to enhance the discourse among the student body, administration, faculty and the surrounding communities. OutLaw stands for social justice and equality across the boundaries of gender, race, class and ability status.

The National LGBT Bar Association is a national association of lawyers, judges and other legal professionals, law students, activists, and affiliated lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender legal organizations. The LGBT Bar promotes justice in and through the legal profession for the LGBTQ+ community in all its diversity.

Focused on the greater New York metropolitan area, LeGaL is dedicated to improving the administration of the law, ensuring full equality for members of the LGBT community, promoting the expertise and advancement of LGBT legal professionals, and serving the larger community.

The purpose of the committee is to promote equality in the law for LGBT people; eliminate discrimination against LGBT attorneys and litigants; promote equality of opportunity for, and increase the visibility of, contributions made by LGBT attorneys; and promote diversity in the bench by inclusion of all minorities, including LGBT people.
