Paper Writing Resources

A guide to techniques and databases at Hofstra Law Library for writing scholarly papers for class or a Note

Start with a Multidisciplinary Database

If your topic involves non-legal issues, such as economics (for business or tax topics), sociological or psychological (for family law topics) or medical (tort, liability, health law topics), start in multi-disciplinary database, such as Academic Search Complete or JSTOR.  You may want to start with a keyword search and then look at promising articles for subject headings or descriptors and use those in your later searches.

These databases will provide access to full-text for some of the articles.  See Locating Articles tab for how to find articles without full-text links.

(You may be prompted to log into the Portal before accessing these databases).

Google Scholar

Search Google Scholar for articles on any subject.  You will find some links to full-text through Hofstra databases.
