Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility for Lawyers

Introduction

The ABA Model standards are not enforceable as law; they serve as models for state adoption.  Generally, they are found within the state’s codified statutes or within the court rules.  Most states have adopted some form of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct.  The ABA Center for Professional Responsibility has a chart indicating the dates on which the states adopted the Model Rules.  The chart can be found here:
